U.S. charges ex-OpenSea executive with NFT insider trading

Justice Department officials say this is the first time they have pursued a charge of "insider trading" in digital assets.

Nate Chastain, the OpenSea employee who left the NFT marketplace following an insider trading scandal in September 2021, is now in the crosshairs of U.S. authorities.

Chastain was charged Wednesday with wire fraud and money laundering in connection with trading on confidential information about which non-fungible tokens were to be offered on the OpenSea homepage, the Justice Department said in a press release.

Chastain, 31, is working on a new NFT project, CoinDesk reported in March.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
