Hundreds of thousands of people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were without power Tuesday morning after a string of dangerous thunderstorms brought tornado warnings, flooding and wind gusts as high as 70 mph (113 kph).
The storms downed trees, knocked out traffic signals and caused flash flooding. Tornado sirens rang out across the region, with radio and TV stations encouraging many in the area to seek shelter. As hail cracked on rooftops, patios and autos, FlightAware reported more than 260 delays and 155 cancellations at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a hub for American Airlines Inc.
