At Bloomberg’s “The Future of Global Financial Centers: Miami”, Billionaire Barry Sternlicht sat down for an interview in which he spoke candidly about numerous political and financial topics, including moving his company from Greenwich, Connecticut to what is now becoming the Bitcoin capital, Miami, FL. For those who might not know him, Barry is the CEO of Starwood Capital, a real estate investment firm that manages over $100 Billion dollars worth of Real Estate, most notably one of the largest public hotel companies, the prestigious Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Barry is very well regarded in the investment community, with some people considering him one of the best Real Estate investors of his generation. In his interview with Bloomberg, Barry spoke in depth about two of the hottest topics that cannot be avoided publicly nowadays; Bitcoin and Inflation. In regards to inflation, Barry held a contrarian belief to what the government is telling us.
Barry is clear that inflation and governments are going towards a dead-end that’s not sustainable. Because of this, he expressed that he holds 5% of his net worth in Bitcoin, and that everyone should. This isn’t the first time Barry has expressed this view. When Jamie Dimon (pronounced Die-Men), CEO of JP Morgan said Bitcoin is “worthless”, Sternlicht responded that “Gold is kind of worthless too”, and went on the state “The reason I own bitcoin is because the U.S. Government, and every government in the Western Hemisphere, is printing money now to the end of time, and this is a finite amount of something and it can be traded globally.” Barry doubled down on that statement and added more insight.
