Bitcoin Bull Michael Saylor purchased more Bitcoin, as Microstrategy announced Tuesday morning it has purchased an additional 301 bitcoins for approximately $6 million in cash, according to an 8-K filing with the SEC.
The latest bitcoin buying spree raises how much bitcoin the business intelligence cloud company owns to 130,000 bitcoins, up from 129,699 as of the end of the second quarter. Bitcoin currently fluctuates around $19,000, as it shows volatility amongst several factors, one being the narrative around its energy consumption. Ethereum recently completed its much-anticipated move from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake, which reportedly reduced its energy consumption by 99%. Ethereum’s move has brought on stark criticism of Bitcoin by lobbyists who are calling for Bitcoin to also change its protocol. As a Keynote speaker at Die Bitcoin Konferenz in Innsbruc Germany, Michael Saylor addressed where the FUD is really coming from and the intention behind it. Saylor believes the direct assault on Bitcoin is nothing more than a way to distract us from what’s really going on, which is that Ethereum and the other thousands of coins are securities and SEC Chairman Gary Gensler laid out the distinction between a security and a commodity years ago, as a professor at MIT.. and not much as changed.
