In an interview with Stanberry Research, investor Kevin O’Leary gave his updated take on the FTX collapse and his overall sentiment. Kevin admitted to being embarrassed by his misfortune, but let it be known that the losses he took with FTX were strictly his own money. Kevin also cleared the air with a viral clip of him saying he’d back Sam Bankman-Fried again, which drew an uproar from those in both the crypto community and traditional media. Kevin’s statement seemed a bit toned-deaf, as many people lost their life savings on what appears to be fraudulent activity, not mismanagement of funds… which becomes an ethical situation opposed to a technical mishap. Kevin stated that he did not know SBF was under fraudulent allegations when he made the statement and rescinded backing him again. But throughout all of the noise surrounding O’Leary, he still holds strong views for crypto and believes it will still be what the 12th sector of the S&P once regulation gets settled and all the bad actors are weeded out.
Kevin O'Leary, nicknamed "Mr. Wonderful", is a Canadian businessman, entrepreneur, and television personality. O'Leary co-founded SoftKey Software Products, a technology company that sold software geared toward family education and entertainment. During the late 1980s and 1990s, SoftKey acquired rival companies via hostile takeover bids, such as Compton's New Media, The Learning Company, and Brøderbund. SoftKey later changed its name to The Learning Company and was acquired by Mattel in 1999, with the sale making O'Leary a multimillionaire.
