The crypto winter is not letting up. It seems that every day, a piece of negative news is in the headlines. The latest is Voyager Digital filing bankruptcy, despite a cash infusion from Sam Bankman-Fried. In the bankruptcy filings, Voyager’s CEO Stephen Ehrlich stated that the company's bad financial state was caused by two issues; First, high inflation and rising interest rates have caused crypto prices to crash, with bitcoin down 60% from its all-time-high in 2021. Second, Three Arrows Capital, a crypto hedge fund, defaulted on a $650 million loan issued by Voyager in March. Sam Bankman-Friend, Crypto’s version of JP Morgan Is in the middle of all of this turmoil, doing all he can to save face for the crypto industry by bankrolling many failing institutions. However, all efforts might be futile, according to veteran investor Kevin O’Leary. In an interview on the Meet Kevin podcast, O’Leary stated that there is an inherit cycle to all markets, and crypto is just the latest to go through the experience. O’Leary stated that in the coming months, more companies will fold. Mainly because of leverage and inexperience from the leaders of this firm. O’Leary’s view is somewhat consistent with that Bankman-Fried, who recently stated that many of the crypto institutions are secretly insolvent. This may sound all doom & gloom, but in the long run, O’Leary believes this cleansing is good for the overall health of the crypto industry.
