The Fed has been calling for a soft landing with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday, reiterating that a soft landing is possible for the US economy thanks to its strong labor market and the absence of balance sheet problems like the ones that preceded the global financial crisis. Yellen stated;
“I see a soft landing as being a possible outcome and the one that I hope we will be able to achieve.”
“The economy is fundamentally in good shape, and inflation is coming down if you measure it on a 12-month basis.”
As a guest on the Blockworks podcast, Investor Mark Yusko expresses a different point of view from the Fed. He believes that the Fed is not accounting for what’s really going on in the economy, which is that liquidity is an issue and small & medium-sized businesses are laying off a high number of employees …and the employees’ ability to get back into the workforce is becoming more difficult.
