As a guest on Blockworks, Hedge Fund Investor Mark Yusko gave his take on the big tech layoffs, the economy, and his concern wit the upcoming mortgage crisis. After a long-standing stretch of being the “it” sector the economy, a slew of blue-chip tech companies announced layoffs; Alphabet (12,000 employees), Amazon (18,000), Meta (11,000), Twitter (4,000), Microsoft (10,000), and Salesforce (8,000). Other household names to layoff employees included Coinbase and Neftlix. The cryptocurrency exchange laid off 950 people in mid-January, just months after it slashed 1,100 roles, while Netflix showed the least layoff, cutting their workforce by about 500 last year. Yusko believes this is just the beginning, as disposable income will tighten for many Americans with the increase of mortgages and the first thing to get axed off of household spending will be Netflix and other entertainment streaming platforms. Yusko is surprised that no one sees this coming and how it will affect many.
